Success story Jax Miller
Magazine
The latest sensational success story is that of Jax Miller, who has just sold two thrillers to HarperFiction UK. Miller has completely bypassed the usual struggle to find an agent and then a publisher, finding her publisher within a week of finishing her novel, She said:
"I finished my novel on Tuesday, Simon (Trewin, of William Morris) read it on Wednesday, signed me on Thursday and sent it to Kate Elton ([at HarperFiction) on Friday. The deal was finalised overnight on Monday and I hope I don't wake up tomorrow and find it was all a dream."
Described as a ‘heart-stopping thriller, the book has an intriguing storyline. Titled 'Freedom's Child', it is set in America and centres around a woman, Freedom, who has spent the past 18 years under witness protection after being exonerated for her husband's murder. When the daughter she gave birth to in prison (and had to give up for adoption) goes missing, Freedom escapes her handlers to rescue her child.
This major two book deal with the 28-year-old writer is worth a substantial six-figure sum.
Miller's new publisher said, Kate Elton, said: ‘I couldn't have been more astonished when I discovered that this incredibly accomplished, meaty thriller was a debut novel by a 28-year-old. Freedom is one of those characters you just fall in love with. Wherever her journey takes her, you want to follow - and Freedom never loses her incredible resolve and determination to save the daughter she only knew for two minutes and 17 seconds.'
Trewin said: ‘My Kindle almost caught fire with the speed I was clicking onto the next page. The international interest is immense: Freedom is a truly original character - just what the world needs.'
Miller, born and raised in New York, lives in Co Meath, Ireland. She was shortlisted for the CWA debut dagger for unpublished writers in 2013 under her real name, Aine O Domhnaill.
This looks like young author we'll be hearing a lot more of.
